Mr. Scootie is a story about having the courage to follow a dream. Despite personal failings, adversities and challenges Mr. Scootie
has the fortitude to see his dream come true.
Like Mr. Scootie, I too had a dream. I wanted to write a book
about him. My head became filled with images and personalities
that seemed to arrive from nowhere. I am a "representational"
artist and these are my first attempts at "illustration." I hope
through the realistic drawings of the birds that children will begin to eagerly identify |

them, as well as embrace the great variety of
their songs, the brilliance of their colours, and appreciate how they
can enhance their lives. |
Whooping Cranes are high on the endangered list. Brown Pelicans have just recently been taken off that list; however, with the Gulf oil spill, their existence is once again being threatened. Ospreys have made a miraculous recovery after nearly vanishing in the 1970's due to the devastating effects of DDT, that was finally banned in 1972. Bald Eagles have also just been taken off the endangered list and are now 'protected.' |
